Bernese Mountain Dog Club of the Rockies

About the BMDCR

About Us

  • Founded in October 1987, the BMDCR is comprised of people who love Bernese Mountain Dogs.

  • The BMDCR serves the states of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

  • We have been officially recognized as a regional club by the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America since 1989.

  • We achieved status as an AKC licensed club in 2007, and hosted their first independent specialty show that same year.

Objectives

Our organization is dedicated to providing a comprehensive resource for Bernese Mountain Dog enthusiasts, offering education and support. We strive to uphold the highest standards in breeding, emphasizing health, longevity, and temperament to perfect the breed's natural qualities. We advocate for adherence to the American Kennel Club's breed standard as the ultimate measure of excellence. Additionally, we aim to protect and promote the breed's interests through fair competition, organizing specialty shows and obedience trials. We also prioritize promoting responsible dog ownership within our community and beyond, encouraging all dog fanciers to follow these principles.

Organization

Membership includes people who are involved in breeding, showing, service and performance events, as well as those whose Berners are cherished family members. A directory of members is published annually, though new members may apply and join at any time.

The BMDCR is governed by its Constitution and Bylaws. The club is a registered nonprofit, tax exempt organization. Officers are elected for 2-year terms and include President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, plus 5 Members-at-large who comprise a Board of Directors. Standing committees include Bylaws, Public Education/Breeder Referral, Membership, Newsletter, Rescue, Show, Ways and Means and Website. Task Forces and Ad Hoc committees are formed as needed.
